Monitoring and national inventories of agrobiodiversity

One result of biodiversity monitoring are the so called "Red Lists", which indicate the status of endangerment of habitats, species, breeds and varieties.

The monitoring of agrobiodiversity has two main tasks: On the one hand to document loss of agrobiodiversity as early as possible and, on the other hand, to work as a management tool concerning the objectives, the programs and the necessary measures for the conservation and sustainable use of agrobiodiversity. In addition it visualises the outcomes of a policy, which is dedicated to sustainability. Therefore the instruments of monitoring, like regular surveys, indicators and inventories, need to be further developed.

Important instruments of the national monitoring of agrobiodiversity in Germany are the National Inventories of Genetic Resources for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in Germany, the so called XGRDEU databases.
