The Federal Republic of Germany receives funds from the programmes of the European Union within the framework of the common fisheries policy (CFP). For this, the European Fisheries Fund (EFF) has been established for the time from 2007 to 2013.
In Germany, the implementation of the EFF is ensured by the Operational Programme. This programme is focused on objectives of the EU common fisheries policy and the German National Fisheries Strategy Plan. That means that fisheries and aquaculture are to be supported with the aim of an environmentally compatible and sustainable use of resources, growth and employment being aimed at at the same time.
The Joint Task for the Improvement of Agricultural Structures and Coastal Protection (GAK) from 2011 to 2014 provides a possibility of supporting genetic resources. GAK includes funding of breeding and conversation respectively of endangered strains and wild populations of fish species. The national register of eligible fish and crayfish was compiled by the National Advisory Board for Aquatic Genetic Resources. The national register is available in BLE's online database on aquatic genetic resources in Germany (AGRDEU).
As direct support instruments for the implementation of national technical programmes and the agro-biodiversity strategy, the BMELV has established the guideline for the support of model and demonstration projects in the field of conservation and innovative sustainable use of biological diversity. Sponsorship for the support of model and demonstration projects lies with the BLE.
