Monitoring and National Inventory
Monitoring means the systematical documentation of variation within crop plants. It concerns the diversity of species as well as the intraspecific diversity. The key feature of these monitoring functions is the acquisition and documentation of occurrences ex situ as well as in situ / on farm on a regular basis

PGRDEU is the main documentation of plant genetic resources in Germany - the National Inventory for Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture in Germany.
PGRDEU contains comprehensive information about species and their utilisation as well as about the endangerment of species occurring in Germany. Moreover, PGRDEU includes data of ex situ collections of German genebanks and other collections as well as a first data compilation (prototype) of in situ occurrences of wild species and landraces. In the context of national and international obligations PGRDEU serves as national interface for information systems like:
- Federal Information System Genetic Resources (BIG)
- European Plant Genetic Resources Search Catalogue (EURISCO) of the European Cooperative Programme for Plant Genetic Resources (ECPGR)
- The World Information and Early Warning System on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (WIEWS) of FAO
- Global information system of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture
In addition to the update of in situ and on farm information PGRDEU will be further developed to exercise monitoring functions.
