The German agricultural sector sees its future role in providing both healthy and safe food of high quality as well as in producing biomass for technical and energetic purposes, thus combining economic and ecological factors. Plant breeding and breeding research plays a key role and genetic diversity is the most important and valuable natural resource for these processes.
