Research on apple allergy

Rose apple

At the "Institute for Breeding Research on Horticultural and Fruits Crops" of the Julius Kuehn Institute (JKI) in Dresden-Pillnitz /Germany, 51 apple varieties have been tested for apple allergens some years ago [4]. But currently no research is done in that field.

Prof. Schmitz-Eiberger of the University of Bonn and her working group do research on valuable and value-reducing ingredients in fruit and vegetable species and how they are influenced by exogenous stress factors. The scientists investigate the Mal d 1 content of different apple varieties and the influence of internal factors. They carry out cultivation and storage experiments. Go to the weblink

Within the framework of the EU project ISAFRUIT at Wageningen University the allergenic potential of different apple varieties and the production of apple varieties low in allergens have been examined. Go to the weblink
