Information systems & databases

The IBV is responsible for a wide range of information systems and databases. This includes conception, actualization, compiling and partly co-ordination of these information services. In the following is given a reference list of the important recent information offers.

Information System Genetic Resources (GENRES)

The Information System Genetic Resources (GENRES) is developed as an on-line information system by the Information an Coordination Centre for Biological Diversity (IBV) of the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE).

XGRDEU Online Databases on Genetic Resources

The Information and Coordination Centre for Biological Diversity (IBV) is responsible for the collection, documentation and user-oriented dissemination of data related to agrobiodiversity in Germany. According to increasing demands for an efficient monitoring of status and trends of genetic resources the IBV further develops the National Inventory for Plant Genetic Resources (PGRDEU), the National Inventory for Animal Genetic Resources (TGRDEU), the National Inventory for Forest Genetic Resources (FGRDEU) and the National Inventory for Aquatic Genetic Resources (AGRDEU). The total number of National Inventories are summarised as "XGRDEU online databases".

Federal Information System Genetic Resources (BIG)

BIG integrates in the field of plant genetic resources comprehensive and nationally important biological, ecological, genetic, geographical and taxonomic information in a user-friendly information system.

Information System for Evaluation Data of Plant Genetic Resources (EVA)

The National Evaluation Programme for Cereals (EVA II) is a cooperation between German private breeding companies and research institutions. EVA II is not a public accessible service.

Inventory of Biological Research Collections in Germany (ZEFOD)

ZEFOD is an information system on botanical and zoological research collections in Germany. In addition to an overview of national collections ZEFOD provides a structural and content-oriented description of biological collections. The metadata are based on the information given by the collection holders. Within ZEFOD the user can search for taxonomic or geographical foci to find the material he is interested in.

Database of Strict Forest Reserves in Germany

Currently there are 716 Strict Forest Reserves (NRW) with a surface of about 31,000 hectares in the store. During the past years the number of NWR has sharply increased. Each NWR is described by a multitude of data (administrative data, surface size, geographical coordinates, forest ecosystems, tree species, potential natural vegetation, soil characteristics, overlapping of other categories of protection etc.).

Information System on the Supply of Forest Reproductive Material in Germany

The "Forest Reproduction Online" information system is a summary of the annual survey by the Federal Agency on the supply situation regarding forest reproductive material in the Federal Republic of Germany. It is a joint project of the Units 324 (Seeds, Forestry, Sales Promotional Measures) and 513 (IBV) of the BLE.

The database includes detailed information about characterization, localization, use and cultivation of 66 medical plants with actual and potential relevance in Germany.

European Regional Focal Point for Animal Genetic Resources

The European Regional Focal Point for Animal Genetic Resources (ERFP) is the European implementation of FAO's Global Strategy for the management of farm animal genetic resources.

European Online Dictionary of Domesticated and Utilised Animals (EDDA)

The objective of EDDA Prototype is to provide a starting point for the building of a comprehensive and complete database of domesticated and utilised animals, focusing firstly on Europe. Such an ambitious project is certainly a long term aim.
