Crucian Carp - Fish of the year 2010

The Crucian Carp was selected as fish of the year 2010 from the German and Austrian organisations "Verband Deutscher Sportfischer" (VDSF), "Österreichisches Kuratorium für Fischerei und Gewässerschutz" (ÖKF), "Bundesamt für Naturschutz (BfN)" and "Verband Deutscher Sporttaucher" (VDST). The Crucian Carp is a cyprinide and a true survivalist. It can even survive locked in ice. Unfortunately the stocks are declining in our home waters. The preferred habitats, river meadows and plain shore areas, are often harmed by regulation of waterways. (in German only) go to weblink
