Statement by the Scientific Advisory Board on Biodiversity and Genetic Resources on the future arable farming strategy of the BMEL

News from:

Contributing to the discussion paper published by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the members of the advisory board have drafted ten additional recommendations for more biodiversity in arable farming.

Concerning the objective to increase biological diversity in Germany’s cultivated area, Ministy’s discussion paper on a future "Arable Farming Strategy 2035" still falls short. This is the conclusion of the Scientific Advisory Board on Biodiversity and Genetic Resources of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). In its most recent statement, the experts formulated 10 additional recommendations for more biodiversity in arable farming.
According to the Advisory Board, it is essential that the goals are more specific and to consider agricultural production and biological diversity more holistically: efficient and effective agricultural production does not exclude biodiversity, on the contrary: Production and biodiversity should be treated as parts of a mutually beneficial system.
