The Scientific Advisory Council on Biodiversity and Genetic Resources advises the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity (BMLEH) on general and fundamental issues relating to the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity.

Experts support the Federal Government in the implementation of the National Special Programme PGR. They form the Advisory and Coordination Committee for Genetic Resources of Agricultural and Horticultural Crops (BEKO).

The conservation and sustainable use of indigenous livestock breeds is supported in an advisory capacity by the Advisory Council on Animal Genetic Resources.

Experts support the practical implementation of the National Programme and advise the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity (BMLEH) on its information and coordination tasks for the conservation and sustainable use of forest genetic resources.

In order to implement the objectives of the national programme for the conservation and sustainable use of aquatic genetic resources, the Committee of Experts on Aquatic Genetic Resources was established.
