GenRes Gateway – an information portal for genetic resources

The GenRes Gateway is a product of the EU-funded project GenRes Bridge and a joint initiative of the three European networks for plant, animal and forest genetic resources (ECPGR, EUFORGEN, ERFP). It helps users find relevant information on genetic resources and organizations that provide science- and practice-based materials as well as related links in the portal. Based on the concept of crowd-sourcing users are able to both share relevant information as well as find information.

Thanks to an intuitive design and an effective search engine, users can freely browse through a wide range of materials and organisations without logging in. The platform hosts links to, for example, databases, publications and other materials on genetic resources, which can be searched using various keywords, criteria and filters in the search mask.

How it works

Stakeholders of organizations, institutions, or companies working with genetic resources in Europe and neighboring countries are invited to register and add relevant materials to the Back Office of the portal, thus continuously expanding the information offered. Contributions are undergoing a quality check by the administrators before being published. The content is reviewed on various criteria, such as the relevance and accessibility of the data and the neutrality of the language used in the descriptions. Registered institutions can be found on the "Organizations" page and provide an overview of the most important actors. Therefore, the portal gives a possibility to a wide range of genetic resources stakeholders to make themselves visible in the digital landscape of key actors working on the sustainable use and conservation of genetic resources and to share relevant contents on genetic resources with the community.
