A physical meeting to discuss the current situation of the German Genebank for Farm Animals was finally possible again (in compliance with the German "3 G rules"). On September 07 2021, the Institute of Farm Animal Genetics (ING) of the Friedrich-Löffler-Institute (FLI) in Mariensee invited colleagues from the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and the Information and Coordination Centre for Biological Diversity (IBV) of the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE) to discuss both the current situation in the genebank and future cooperation.

The IBV is responsible for the documentation of the material stored in the genebank. In the future, this will be done in the Central Documentation of Animal Genetic Resources (TGRDEU).

In the course of this event, the new managing director of the German Genebank for Farm Animals, Prof. Dr. Steffen Weigend, and the new director of the Institute of Farm Animal Genetics, Prof. Dr. Claudia Klein, introduced themselves personally. The IBV is looking forward to the further cooperation with the colleagues.
