Save the Date: Congress on breeding and conservation of old and endangered domestic livestock breeds

BMEL will host a national congress on the breeding and conservation of old and endangered domestic livestock breeds at the World Conference Center Bonn from September 26-28, 2022.

Source: BMEL

Old breeds of large and small ruminants, pigs and horses, rabbits, poultry and bees are an important element of biodiversity in Germany. They often have special characteristics or a regional history, but are economically at a disadvantage compared to modern breeds. Unfortunately, many breeds have thus been almost lost in the past decades and are endangered today. Therefore it is necessary to find ways and possibilities to counteract this process.

The BMEL and its cooperation partners are therefore organizing the three-day Congress on Breeding and Conservation of Old and Endangered Domestic Livestock Breeds from September 26-28, 2022, at the World Conference Center Bonn. You can expect an extensive range of topics across animal species at a unique venue. The congress is part of the series of the BMEL Department 715 "Practice meets Science".

With this congress, BMEL and its cooperation partners would like to
- inform you about the current state of affairs,
- offer you a platform for exchange between practice, science and politics and
- develop proposals and concepts for the conservation and sustainable use of these genetic resources.

You will receive further information about the congress shortly.

Please save the date of the congress. The BMEL and its cooperation partners are looking forward to the exchange with you!
