Project Idai: Local seed systems critical for food security

The FAO has presented an impressive report on the BMEL-funded project "Foundations for Rebuilding Seed Systems post Cyclone Idai". The brochure provides a comprehensive insight into the implementation and successes of the project following the devastating effects of Cyclone Idai in 2019.

The project has helped to save and multiply local seed reserves and distribute them to the affected communities. It shows how important local seed systems are for our food security and that cooperation between national gene banks and farmers is crucial to protect seeds in the event of a disaster.
